"NAGARA HOLE" is a Wild Life Park in the State of Karnataka in South India which is well known for its dense virgin forest and natural beauty. One can see wild Elephants, Bisons, Deer, Tigers, Cheetahs and various wild animals moving freely about with many types of colourful jungle birds hovering about. In this place of natural beauty our story takes place.

One day Madhu takes her son Chandru alongwith a group of students and teachers to an excursion trip to NAGARA HOLE where she had lost her husband years ago. Chandru and other children go to the jungle but are disappointed not to see any wild animals. Chandru and his friends Mallu, Pappi and the fat boy Ramu decides to go to the jungle stealthily at night and watch the wild animals. Chandru is keen to take their photographs as well.

Accordingly at night Chandru leaves the camp with Mallu&Pappi. Ramu who first refused to join them follows them and meets them in the jungle afterwards. They climb up the Machan and seeing a herd of elephants, Chandru gets down to photograph them. The flash light enrages one of the elephants who pursues Chandru and tears down the Machan. The four children have a narrow escape. But next day, after they rescue Ramu from a pool of mud and are bathing him in clean water they are frightened by the sight of a tiger. While the three children stand glued to their place, Ramu runs and pays the price. For the tiger rushes after him and poor Ramu falls prey to the hungry tiger.

After Ramu's death Chandru decides not to go back to the camp and to stay on in the jungle. His two friends who have not love lost for their parents also decide to stay back with him. Meanwhile their disappearance causes a grave concern in the camp. A search party led the Forest Ranger goes to the jungle and returns without any trace of the children. Chandru's mother accompanied by the bus-driver Anthony goes in search of her son. Their car gets blocked. The Police also join the search. They are out to find out not only the children but a gang of traitors suspected to be hiding in the jungle.

The children aware of the search succeed in hiding from them. But trying to run away from a tiger they are caught in a trap and rescued by the people of a jungle tribe. When the tribal head decides to hand them over to the Police, they again run away and befriend an elephant who was trapped in a pit and whom they help to come out.
